Liam Gleason was appointed associate head men's lacrosse coach as a member on Scott Marr's UAlbany staff on October 5, 2011.
Gleason, a former UAlbany defenseman, played on the school's 2007 squad that won the America East Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals. He previously was the head coach at the College of Saint Rose for one year. Before Saint Rose he was an Assistant and Defensive coordinator at Siena College. While at Siena College he directed a defensive unit that finished among the nation’s (NCAA Division I) top-five teams in goals-against-average throughout each of his three years in Loudonville.
Siena’s man-down defense was second in the nation in 2009-10. The Saints allowed a mere 15 goals throughout 73 attempts for a .795 penalty kill percentage. They furthermore wound up fifth in the country with an 8.06 goals-against-average, a major factor towards their run to the Metro Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship game.
In 2007-08, Gleason guided Siena’s defense to the nation’s top GAA mark. The unit subsequently wound up second in that category the following season.
Gleason also helped lead the team to its first MAAC championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008-09 when Siena posted an unblemished 8-0 league mark. A year earlier, the Saints established themselves as the first MAAC school to defeat an Ivy League team (Harvard) and a top-25 team (Loyola, MD).
The former long stick midfielder and close defenseman at UAlbany was part of the 2007 America East Conference championship team when they finished the year 15-3 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. UAlbany was ranked as high as #2 in the nation during the 2007 season.
Gleason, who graduated from UAlbany in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, spent the 2004 and 2005 seasons at Adelphi and also played professionally in 2008 with the New Jersey Pride of Major League Lacrosse.
